The past year has seen us stay home, give up time with friends and family, sanitize EVERYTHING, cancel parties, weddings, graduations and vacations. Now that vaccines are being rolled out and we see a glimmer of hope, the question becomes, what's next? Can we travel? Can we celebrate? I say YES, as long as you follow some guidelines.
Here are my Top 5 tips:
Do some research. What's open and available? If you travel to a different country, will you be able to leave the resort and explore? Are there quarantine requirements? A little research on the front end will allow you to make the best decisions for you and avoid disappointment later. Sure, a destination may be your dream, but, if you can't do the things you want to do, maybe it's best to save it for another time.
Book sooner than later. Prices are good now but they are not going down. Demand is high and pricing will continue to go up. Lock in your dates and your destination now. Remember, the whole world has been effected and we all want to get back to travel and to celebrating. If you can choose some dates and a destination now, you are ahead of the curve.
Check your Passport. I always suggest that folks physically go find their passport, open it up and check the expiration date. If you need to renew, go ahead and take care of that today. There are so many horror stories where travelers assumed they knew the expiration date and made a mistake. Just go look and make 100% sure.
Check the destination details. Understand any requirements for entering the destination and returning home. Some destinations (even ones in the US) require a negative COVID test to enter. AND, the CDC is requiring a negative test to return home from any foreign country. Make 100% certain you understand the type of test you need to take and when you need to take it so you don't have any hiccups.
Travel Insurance. Don't gamble with your hard-earned vacation investment! Protect it with a good Travel Insurance policy. Read the policy so you know exactly what's covered. Nothing ruins a vacation faster than some unforeseen issue that could be easily addressed with a good insurance policy.
