River Cruise Line Profile: AmaWaterways
Ama means love. AmaWaterways is a family owned river cruise company. Celebrating 20 incredible years on the world’s rivers, this family-owned and operated company has provided guests with innovative and unforgettable travel experiences. This line was founded by pioneers of modern luxury river cruising and have received numerous prestigious awards and accolades. In addition, AmaWaterways consistently rates highly with guests. Ama invites guests to discover rivers in Europe, Asia, Africa and, in 2024, South America!
Here's a closer look:
Ama 100% owns all of their ships and the company operates with zero debt. This means they are very reliable and your travel investment is safe with them. Not all companies can say the same and we discovered this during the 'time that shall not be named.'
Ama has over 26 ships, most of which sail in Europe but they also have AmaDahlia and AmaLilia in Egypt and Zambezi Queen in Africa. The AmaMagdalena will be joining the fleet soon to sail in Colombia, South America.
Most Ama river cruise ships in Europe carry about 160 guests onboard. The only exception is the innovative and beautiful AmaMagna which is larger than other river cruise ships.
Many cabins on Ama ships feature a unique twin balcony configuration that maximizes in-cabin space while still offering a small seating area outside.
AmaWaterways includes up to four excursions per port. These can include walking, hiking, biking tours for a variety of activity level. Guests are welcome to borrow bikes onboard to explore on their own. Each ship also has a Wellness Host onboard who conducts fitness classes for guests.
Wine and beer are included at lunch and dinner as well as a Sip and Sail cocktail hour prior to dinner each evening.
While river cruising traditionally attract mature guests, AmaWaterways welcomes guests age 4 and up onboard. In reality, most guests onboard will be adults with some teens. Younger guests will be few and far between but Ama is a great option for families looking to explore these itineraries together.
Gratuities are an additional charge. WiFi is free onboard. Final Payments are due 90 days prior to departure while some other lines take payment in full up to a year in advance of travel.
Ama offers Air travel bookings as well as pre- and post- travel arrangements. Your pre- and post- bookings with AmaWaterways include an Ama host who will either conduct tours or assist guests with their plans.
Like other river cruise lines, AmaWaterways does Christmas Market itineraries on the Danube and the Rhine. To make the experience more festive, the ship is also decorated.
